Announcing Remnants of the Torn
Life gets busy. Sometimes you want to play a game or two but having schedules lined up is always hard. I tried a few solo play games but I feel like some are overly complicated for almost no reason other than you are playing alone and it keeps it interesting? I guess? Then I decided, this was it. A solo/co-op game that isn’t overly complicated and fun to play. I wanted to test the standard styles of play and kind of exploit something that I feel like most games ignore, how loud it can be to do things. Well I give you…
Remnants of the Torn
Make too much noise and it all comes for you.
You control a warband of three units called the Torn. You start with almost nothing as you travel the landscape searching Location Tokens for equipment while trying to survive in a solo or co-op narrative campaign based around a dead god’s remains and their followers.
Almost everything you do during gameplay generates noises. Once the noise tracker reaches 10, the current enemies get a free activation and then reinforcements arrive. Then you go back to taking your turn. The Torn also gets a free activation when they land a critical hit. This along with the noise tracker gives the game a nice push and pull feel, where at any moment the tides can turn to either side.
Remnants of the Torn, is a d10 dice pool system. The rules are designed to be simple and easy to run. One of my core design principles is managing cognitive load. I’ve played a few solo skirmish games where I often feel like I need a nap after one or two scenarios. This isn’t one of those games, you should be able to play all day without the heavy drain.
The core game rules are 100% done developmentally, it just needs to be polished before going to release. My plan is doing the core rules as PWYW so the barrier of entry is as easy as possible. Along with the release of the core rules will be the first God Supplement. That is going to be a branching narrative campaign designed around finding the first remains of a god. My target for everything being ready is sometime this year!
